The Albemarle Girls' Field Hockey and Lacrosse League was started in 1981 by Linda Perriello and Linda Southworth. The founders of the middle school league and the parents of a handful of players back in the 1980s were instrumental in starting varsity programs at both the county and city high schools. The league provides a competitive environment and positive lacrosse experience for developing lacrosse players in the local community. The leagues desire is to maintain a safe learning environment that encourages sportsmanship and responsibility while developing a solid lacrosse and field hockey foundation.
